Sand moves, so the base decides
Wellfleet sits on sand with the water table close to the surface. Sand drains fast, which sounds like good news until you realise it also shifts. A patio or walkway set on a base that was not excavated deep enough and compacted in layers will settle unevenly within a season or two.
The fix is not complicated but it is not optional. Excavate deeper than inland soil requires, compact in lifts, and edge the perimeter so nothing migrates. It is invisible when finished, and it is the whole difference between twenty years and three.
