Masonry & Hardscaping Contractor

Masonry & Hardscaping inBourne, MA

Bourne is the only town on Cape Cod that sits on both sides of the Canal, and that split shows up in the work. Buzzards Bay and Sagamore are two different builds, on two different kinds of ground, facing two different bodies of water.

Sagamore Beach and the bluff

Building on sloped coastal ground

The Sagamore Beach side sits on a bluff over Cape Cod Bay. Sloped lots, wind straight off the water, and ground that wants to move downhill. Every patio up there is really a question about grade, and every wall is really a question about drainage.

A retaining wall on that kind of site is a structure, not a border. Footing below frost depth, free-draining backfill, a drain line that exits somewhere useful, and geogrid once the height calls for it. In Massachusetts, walls above four feet generally need an engineer, and a surcharge above the wall lowers that threshold. We tell you before quoting, not mid-build.

Buzzards Bay and the villages

Older homes, older masonry

Buzzards Bay, Monument Beach, Pocasset and Cataumet carry a lot of housing built decades ago, and the hardscape has aged with it. Concrete walkways that have heaved, front steps pulling away from the house, chimneys with open crowns letting water into the flue.

Older brick is softer than modern brick. Repointing it with a hard modern mortar traps moisture and cracks the brick from the inside out. We match the mortar to the masonry, not the reverse.

First town on the Cape

Easy to reach, easy to service

Bourne is about twenty five minutes from our shop in Mashpee, straight up Route 28 or 6. Estimates are usually scheduled within 48 hours, and if something needs attention after the job is finished we come back rather than putting you in a queue.

Before we quote, we check what applies to your address. Work near the Canal, a coastal bank or a wetland can fall under Conservation Commission review, and that changes what can be built and where.

Have questions?

Common questions in Bourne

My lot slopes. Can it still have a patio?

Usually yes. A retaining wall or a terraced series of walls turns a slope into flat, usable space. How many levels and how tall depends on the grade and the soil, which is why we walk the property before quoting anything.

How tall can a retaining wall be before it needs an engineer?

In Massachusetts, walls above four feet generally require a design by a registered engineer, and a load above the wall can lower that threshold. We tell you upfront if your project crosses that line.

Do you work on older chimneys and brick?

Yes. Older brick needs a softer mortar than modern brick. Repointing with the wrong mix traps water and cracks the face off the brick. We match the mortar to what is already there.

Do I need a permit near the Canal?

Often. Work near a coastal bank, wetland or the Canal itself can fall under Conservation Commission review. We check your address before quoting and handle the filing where it applies.
